The Weaver and the Cowherd

Once a year the magpies make a bridge.

LoomHerd

Loom. Herd.

Zhinü weaves the clouds. Niulang tends cattle. Their love is so absorbing that the work of heaven and earth slips. They are parted by a river of stars. Once a year, magpies make a bridge.

Some hear a tragedy that forgot to end. Others feel a design: two real callings, a river, one night the magpies still keep. Love as an appointed crossing. The night of Qixi is when that design becomes visible.
