Ma’at

The heart against the feather.

HeartFeather

Heart. Feather.

Ma’at is the opposite of isfet: chaos, injustice, the lie. Pharaohs claimed to uphold her. The dead hoped their hearts would be light. She is often shown as a woman with an ostrich feather, but she is closer to physics than to a personality: the way things hold if you do not cheat.

To meet Ma’at is to discover that some of your suffering is not mystery. It is imbalance asking to be named.
