Freyja

She weeps gold.

The necklace · The falcon cloak · The search

Freyja owns Brísingamen, a necklace so bright it is almost a scandal. She flies in a falcon cloak. Half the slain come to her hall, not Odin’s. She taught the Aesir a magic they feared because it worked. When her husband Óðr wanders, she goes looking, and the tears she sheds are red gold.

She is not the tame Venus of greeting cards. She is the dignity of wanting, the intelligence of attraction, and the refusal to split love from power.
